INSTINCTUAL (2026)
within our bodies we experience the pain, grief, and rage of our ancestors. through this experience we are returned to something primal and instinctual: the animal urge to endure.
in this series the stories of our mañaina are told through acrylic, oil pastel, and pencil on Bristol paper. in spite of hundreds of years invasion, christianization, displacement, development invasion, enslavement, and military occupation we still remain. it is a vital instinct of ours, passed through the generations that have survived and the generations that will continue move forward, to endure and thrive.
may we hear our elders’ stories through our bones, and share them with those who are also returning to their instincts.
